Style Guide

May 13, 2015 By John Moeller

A brief style guide on adding equipment pages to the PerfTech website.

First, take a look at this example page:

http://perf.tamu.edu/perftech/equipment/empirical-labs-distressor-el8/

Then, follow these points:

  • Include the full make/model name in the equipment page’s title.
  • Avoid abbreviations.
  • Format your post as found on the above-linked example page.
  • On each equipment page, provide a brief description, a section called Basic Controls, and then a section called Tips.
  • The brief description, Basic Controls section, and Tips section are probably best taken from the manual, and then summarized as appropriate.
  • Include photos in the Equipment Images section of at least the front and rear of the device, plus any other important angles.
    • Images can be obtained from the manufacturer’s site and from Google images.
  • Use the image of the front of the device as the Featured Image for the post.
  • Upload a manual in the Equipment Documents section.
    • Most manuals can be obtained from the manufacturer’s website.
    • Note that several manuals have already been collected in the PerfTech gDocs account.
    • Keep the original file name intact, and if it’s an obscure name, then also add a short descriptor to the beginning, e.g., “Manual-distressor_aodty38hd.pdf”
  • Provide links to videos that give useful information about the device.
  • Check the box labelled “Equipment” in the Categories box.
  • Add any pertinent Tags in the Tag box.
  • Select the appropriate Types and Locations in their respective boxes.
  • Press Publish.
