The College of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts (PVFA) Recording Studio facility is a laboratory for recording engineers and other PVFA students for academic projects.
Access
Requests for access by individuals or whole classes must be documented via e-mail to the recording studio manager from a PVFA faculty member sponsoring the project, giving assurance that the student has the skills to properly operate the equipment, and explaining the nature of the project and the duration of access requested. TAMU ID cards will typically be set up for access within one business day. Any student may be required to complete an orientation session before using the facility. Priority is given to students in the following order.
- Students currently enrolled in courses that require use of the facility.
- PVFA majors and PVFA minors currently enrolled in PVFA classes related to the recording studio.
- Non-majors currently enrolled in PVFA classes related to the recording studio.
- Other students working on approved academic projects.
Projects may be turned down at the discretion of the studio manager, e.g., because of demand by students in the categories above or because of the rules governing the use of the space.
Scheduling
- Studio hours are every day, 6:00 AM – midnight.
- The student worker office is in 223 LAAH. Go there to check out and return equipment (if you are authorized to do so) or to get help if anything isn’t working right.
- Studio facilities are on a first-come first-served basis unless reservations are made. If a room is reserved but not being used, others may use the space on a first-come first-served basis but must be prepared to pack up and leave within five minutes if the person who reserved the room arrives.
- Make reservation requests via e-mail to the studio manager. The default reservation duration is three hours; longer reservations may be made if the request is accompanied by a satisfactory explanation. Check the facility calendars for availability before making your request, and be sure to reserve all rooms needed for your session (Control Room, Large Recording Room, Small Recording Room). Your reservation is not official until you receive a confirmation e-mail. Requests are usually processed within one business day.
- You will be held responsible for all guests you bring to the studio and the state of the equipment after your card is scanned. Report any damaged or missing equipment immediately to the student worker staff (LAAH 223) or if the office is closed, via e-mail to the studio manager with “URGENT” in the subject line. If a room cannot be secured (e.g., the door does not close properly), also notify TAMU Police immediately at (979) 845-2345. Registration or graduation may be blocked until any necessary restitution is made.
- Excessive requests may be reduced or denied if needed to ensure the facility can be used by all students needing it, honoring the order of priority listed above, at the discretion of the studio manager.
Studio Use
- Close all doors when you leave the studio, even if you are stepping out momentarily.
- At the end of a recording session, return the studio to its original condition, turning down all faders and gain controls, turning off all phantom power on preamps, disconnecting all microphones and extra patch bay cables, properly wrapping and storing cables, and tidying up all equipment.
- Do not reconfigure any of the studio hardware or software without staff supervision, except for front connections on the control room patch bay.
- Treat the studio and equipment with care and consideration for others.
- No drinks may be used in the studio facilities with the exception of water in sealable or spill-proof containers.
- No food, alcohol, or tobacco may be used in the studio facilities.
